FIRST JUAREZ WRITERS’ CONFERENCE
PANEL OF WRITERS AT CONSULATE
The U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez is pleased to support the First Juarez Writers’ Conference 2011. The Consulate General will host a panel discussion with authors Jose Manuel Garcia (USA), Martin Camps (USA), Uberto Stabile (Spain), Diana Espinal (Honduras) and Roberto Castillo (Mexico) on September 2nd at 12:30 p.m. During the panel presentation, the guest writers will read portions of their literary work and talk about their creative process.
The First Juarez Writers’ Conference 2011 will begin on September 2nd at the Consulate General and will continue at other locations until September 6th. Over 60 local writers and representatives from Mexico, Spain, Honduras and the United States will give book presentations and readings aboard public transportation. Please send you full name, organization, and date and place of birth before 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1st. If you plan to bring a vehicle please include the make, model, color and license plate number. The day of the presentation, attendees should bring a valid photo ID.

WRITERS’ PANEL AT CONSULATE
Martin Camps
Martin Camps is an Assistant Professor at the University of the Pacific. He has published three poetry books: Desierto Sol, La Invención del Mundo y La Extinción de los Atardeceres. Camps has won two poetry awards from the Mexican Cultural Institute and an Honorable Mention in the Bi-national Poetry Award Pellicer-Frost in 1999. His poems have been published in The Bitter Oleander, Alforja, Tierra Adentro and others.
Roberto Castillo
Roberto Castillo Udiarte was born in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, in 1951. He studied English and Spanish Literature at the UNAM Faculty of Arts and Communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Tijuana. He has been a teacher, journalist and cultural promoter, editor, writer, radio producer, translator and correspondent. His texts have been translated into English, French and German. Castillo has published books of poetry, prose and a series of anthologies and compilations.
Diana Espinal
Diana Espinal holds a B.A. in Literature from the National Pedagogical University Francisco Morazan. She is the author of the following poetry books: Eclipse de Agujas, Tras los Hilos e Investigación Vida y Obra del Poeta Justo Pérez. Espinal has been anthologized in: Como Ángeles en Llamas and Voces latinoamericanas del siglo XX.
Jose Manuel Garcia
Garcia holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Kansas. Since 1992, he has worked as a Professor of Literature at the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Garcia has published books of poetry, essays, and historical reviews of Ciudad Juarez. Editor of literary and academic journals, Jose Manuel Garcia is a cultural activist who has received several awards for his fictional works, including the Border Ford Poetry Award Pellicer/Frost in 1997.
Uberto Stabile
Uberto Stabile was born in Valencia, Spain in 1959. He studied art history at the University of Valencia. He is the founder of the Writers Union of Valencia and the Fundación Juan Ramón Jiménez. He was the director of the poetry magazine Aullido, as well as various International Writers’ Conferences. Stabile has received numerous awards, and his poetry has been translated into English, Italian, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Catalan and Frenc. His works are reflected in numerous national and international anthologies.
