Consulate General Operations during H1N1 Flu Outbreak

Consulate General Operations during H1N1 Flu Outbreak

The Consulate is open and providing all regular services. In accordance with measures announced by the Government of Mexico to limit the congregation of large crowds to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus, the Embassy in Mexico City and the U.S. Consulate General in Ciudad Juarez restricted some consular operations during the month of May 2009. See below for more information on the resumption of operations.

American Citizen Services

Effective May 7, the Consulate General’s American Citizen Services unit resumed full operations.  Applicants for citizen services with appointments on or after May 7 should proceed to the Consulate as scheduled.  Applicants for citizen services who had their appointments cancelled should contact the American Citizen Services unit to reschedule their appointments. Contact information can be found at http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/about_the_consulate.html.

Immigrant Visa Applicants

All immigrant visa appointments scheduled from Thursday, April 30th through Friday, May 15th were rescheduled between June 5 and June 12. For questions about the scheduling of immigrant visa appointments, you may check the immigrant visa appointment list (link) or contact the call center at 01-900-849-4949 (from Mexico) or 1-900-476-1212 (from the U.S.).

Applicants with immigrant visa appointments after May 15 should proceed to the Consulate as scheduled.  The panel physicians resumed operations on May 11.

Applicants who have I-601 waiver appointments scheduled after May 6 should proceed to the Consulate as scheduled. Even if previously notified that your appointment was cancelled, you should attend your regularly scheduled appointment.  If you choose to reschedule, please contact the call center at 01-900-849-4949 (from Mexico).

K-1 (fiancée) applicants and approved waiver applicants who have received an open appointment letter may continue with their open appointments after May 15.

Applicants that have received a letter indicating that their case is pending (221(g)) do not need to schedule a new appointment, unless the consular officer has directly asked to interview them again. If the consular officer has asked for a second interview, they too may contact the call center for an appointment. If only documents are needed, the applicant may drop off documents at the consulate information windows or send the documents, passport(s) and a copy of 221(g) letter to the Consulate via DHL at:
