Consul General Raymond G. McGrath

A native of Chicago, Consul General Raymond McGrath joined the Foreign Service in 1987 and began his career as a consular officer in Hermosillo, Mexico (1987-1989) and as an economic/consular officer in Quito, Ecuador (1989-1991).

At the State Department, Mr. McGrath has held positions as Financial Economist for the Office of Investment Affairs (1991-1993) and Desk Officer for the Office of West African Affairs (1993-1995), where he returned as Deputy Director from 2002 to 2004.

From 1995 to 1997, Mr. McGrath was the Deputy Chief of the Immigrant Visa Unit in Manila, Philippines, and then Visa Chief in Lima, Peru until 2000.  He served as Deputy Chief of the Consular Section in Havana, Cuba from 2000 until 2002, and as Consul General in Bogota, Colombia from 2004 until 2007.

Mr. McGrath holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Arizona.  Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State, Mr. McGrath traveled widely as a singer with the Notre Dame Glee Club and Up With People.  More recently he was a member of the International Chorus of Havana and the Washington Men's Camerata, with which he performed several times at Washington's Kennedy Center.  Mr. McGrath arrived in Ciudad Juarez in August 2007, along with his wife and two children.
