Warden Message for Palomas
WARDEN MESSAGE: PASSPORT OUTREACH IN PALOMAS, CHIHUAHUA We also want to remind all American citizens that on June 1, 2009, a U.S. passport will be required for all citizens age 16 and over to cross the land border from Mexico into the United States. American citizens wishing to apply for a U.S. passport in Palomas should send an email to cdjamericancitizens@state.gov with their name and time that they will come. All U.S. citizens applying for a passport should fill out the application form on-line at: https://pptform.state.gov/ and attach two 2”x2” photographs as specified on the application form. In addition all applicants must provide proof of identity and citizenship. Proof of identity can be government issued photo identification such as driver’s license or voter’s credential. Proof of citizenship can be an original long form U.S. birth certificate, an expired U.S. passport, a naturalization certificate, a certificate of citizenship or a Consular Record of Birth Abroad (CRBA). U.S. citizens age 15 and under should be accompanied by both parents when making their application. U.S. citizens age 16 and 17 should be accompanied by at least one parent. Passport fees must be paid at the time of the application. Acceptable forms of payment are U.S. money orders, U.S. cashier’s checks in dollars or “cheques de caja” from Banamex or Bancomer. The exchange rate that will be used for passport applications and applications for CRBA’s during the outreach to Palomas on April 15, 2009, will be $17 Mexican pesos = $1 U.S. dollar. Consulate representatives in Palomas cannot accept cash. The Consulate urges all U.S. citizens who live in or travel to Mexico to apply for their U.S. passport book or card well in advance of the June 1, 2009 deadline. This Warden Message is being issued to inform American citizens that representatives from the Consulate will accept U.S. passport applications, at the Mayor’s Office, in Palomas, Chihuahua from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm on April 15, 2009. A representative from the U.S. Social Security Administration will also be present to answer questions. The Mayor’s office is located at Galeana y Zaragoza S/N.
